History of the TOKAI Group

Establishment of Yaizu Gas and the supply of city gas.

The company was established in 1950 as Yaizu Gas Co., Ltd. and began supplying city gas in Yaizu City, using natural gas sourced from the area around Yaizu Port. Riding the wave of post-war recovery, we expanded our supply area and changed our name to Tokai Gas Co., Ltd. Furthermore, in 1959, we launched our LP gas business, focusing on expansion both within and outside Shizuoka Prefecture, which became a core part of our operations. This remarkable growth was supported by the unique characteristics of our founding location, Yaizu City, which was thriving during the post-war recovery period, as well as our corporate culture that diligently responded to customer needs.

Diversification of Business

In response to the rapid increase in demand, we established the industry's first " Distribution Center" to efficiently distribute LP gas. The implementation of a data processing system and the introduction of computers laid the groundwork for our later entry into the information and communication business. Utilizing the experience gained from supplying household gas, we began by selling residential equipment and expanded into various sectors, including construction and real estate, insurance, security, wedding services, event planning, and CATV. This diversification focused on improving the quality of life for our customers and helped us build a strong, community-oriented business foundation.

Stock Listing and Nationwide Expansion

Tokai Gas Co., Ltd. was listed on the Nagoya Stock Exchange Second Section in November 1979 and on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in March 1987. In October of the same year, we changed our company name to TOKAI Co., Ltd. With a strong capital structure and a new corporate concept and slogan, we focused on further expanding our business and service areas.

For example, in the information and communication sector, we established the "TOKAI Information Center" (now the Data Center) in Yaizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, in August 1985, as part of building the information infrastructure for our home security business.
In the CATV sector, we began our CATV operations in Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, in 1988, and subsequently acquired CATV operators across the country. This allowed us to enhance community channels unique to each region, improve communication quality, and increase our customer base.
We have also developed various lifestyle-related services (such as mobile, water, and home renovation) to meet the changing needs of our customers over time."

Establishment of TOKAI Holdings Corporation

Due to the diversification of our businesses, the number of group companies increased; however, each operated independently, which hindered the ability to achieve synergies among the group. To address this issue and transition to an efficient management system that leverages the strengths of the group, we undertook a reorganization focused on selecting and concentrating our businesses, as well as enhancing cross-group functions. As a result, we transitioned to a holding company structure in April 2011 and established TOKAI Holdings Corporation.
After the integration, we actively expanded our business areas, created new ventures, and grew community-oriented businesses, all while adhering to our corporate philosophy: "For customers livelihood, along with the region, together with the earth, we will continue to grow and develop." We strive to provide our customers with peace of mind, safety, convenience, comfort, joy, and meaningfulness of life based on our corporate philosophy.
